This week 6th graders decorated their sketchbook covers and discussed several elements of art. Tuesday we created contour drawings of simple objects in our sketchbooks. Wednesday, we learned about shading techniques: hatching, cross-hatching and stippling. We added these techniques to our contour drawings. Thursday we created a 6 step value scale for each technique. Friday we worked on an art elements word search and drawing.
Students will continue their Connections rotation until they are placed in Band, Orchestra or Chorus. Thursday we will make sketchbooks. Friday we will make covers for our sketchbooks.
Students will have an assembly in the theater to learn about Band and Orchestra. Tuesday through Friday, students will rotate through other Connections classes. This will continue until all students are placed in Band or Orchestra.
We will be playing Token Response in Art class. Students work in groups to view famous works of art, discuss them, and place a token on the artwork that they feel is worthy of it's meaning. Tokens are tallied and discussed by group. This activity introduces aesthetics and art criticism to students.
