Students will create holiday decorations for Martin's restaurant in Powder Springs. We will review elements and principles of art on Monday.
6th grade students in period 6 will finish their Character trees. We will begin a hand out for better understanding of the elements and principles of art. We will work on the matrix hand out and the Feldman Method of Art Criticism Worksheet. Friday we will look at giant air balloons created for the American tradition in the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade.
Period 7 will continue to work on our Tree of Thanks. Students that have completed their branches will work on the elements and principles matrix. Students will complete the Feldman Method of Art Criticism Worksheet and practice the steps for better understanding with an image of art work by Edward Gorey. I am posting the image for students that did not finish in class to complete for homework. Thursday we will switch groups to give students a chance to paper mache' and work on the hand out. Friday we will look at giant air balloons created for the American tradition in the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade.
6th period will continue to create their Character trees. We will be learning about silhouettes and sketching out our tree silhouettes on final drawing paper. We will paint our silhouettes with black tempera paint. We will stipple leaves with a hard bristle brush. By Wednesday, we should be ready to start adding our positive character trait words to our trees using the principles of pattern and emphasis.
7th period students will continue to work on our Tree of Thanks. We are adding paper mache' to our branch armatures and adding texture to the trunk of the tree.
Students will begin 2 different projects:
6th period will work on Character Trees. Each student will think about 10 positive words that describe themselves. They will study the structure of trees by sketching the 2 trees outside of the art room window. We will begin to talk about silhouettes and shadows so students can paint their tree silhouette on paper.
7th period will begin building a paper mache' Thanks Tree. Each student will work with a group of students to make paper mache' branches for a large scale tree. We looked at the structure of trees and discussed the elements of form, line, texture and shape to create branches out of wire and other recyclables.
