Monday and Tuesday students will complete their template designs for their Japanese Notan composition.
Wednesday students will be drawing their designs on construction paper using organic and geometric shapes.
Thursday and Friday students will cut out their shapes and put their background pieces on a large sheet of black construction paper. Students will place cut out shapes back into place like a puzzle. They will make sure that the largest shape will fit on the black construction paper when "flipped". After the background piece is glued down, students will begin "flipping" and "placing" shapes onto the black construction paper to create a symmetrical design with the cut-out space they came from.
Students will work on their Chinese Landscape drawings Monday and Tuesday.
Wednesday we will learn how to create Japanese Notan Designs.
Thursday and Friday students will start drawing their design lightly with pencil. Students will follow the steps on their rubric to begin cutting out and pasting their design to colored paper.
Monday students will finish their Koi fish water color paintings.
Tuesday students will begin a Chinese Landscape drawing using chalk pastels.
Wed-Friday students will render their landscapes.
Monday student will trace over their design with a sharpie.
Tuesday we will watch a short video about watercolor painting techniques. Students will use at least three of the 5 techniques demoed in class:
Wet on wet
Wednesday through Friday students will add the elements of value and color to their art working using watercolor paints.
Monday students will learn about Asian art and symbols. We will be focusing on Koi fish. Students will practice drawing a koi fish following the steps on the projector/hand-out.
Tuesday students will begin their koi fish drawing using pencil.
Wednesday through Friday students will continue to draw their koi fish and add water marks, splashes, lily pad, lotus flower or Asian symbol.
Monday and Tuesday students will be finishing their Celtic Knot Macramé bracelets. An additional assignments will be given to early finishers.
Wednesday I will only see 4th period due to the half day. Students will have an additional day to complete the bracelet and assignment.
Thursday students will learn about the Feldman Method of Art Criticism.
Friday students will critique works of art using the 4 steps of the Feldman Method.
Monday students will learn about Celtic knot work and macramé. Students will follow steps to create a Celtic Knot.
Tuesday students will begin making a Celtic Knot bracelet with twisteez wire and beads. Students will follow step by step instructions on their rubric. I will model each step in class.
Wednesday and Thursday students will continue to create each knot, add a bead and repeat steps.
Friday students will complete the Reading Review work sheet on artist Marc Chagall.
Students will continue to work on their Romare Bearden collages.
Collages will be due on Friday.

Wednesday students will continue to work on their Romare Bearden collage assignment.
Thursday and Friday students should be adding the finishing touches to their collages and turning them in with their rubric and checklist.
Monday and Tuesday students will look through available image sources and select a variety of images to include in their designs.
Wednesday students will prepare their backgrounds for their collages.
Thursday and Friday students will compose a visual story with the materials and images they have found to illustrate their theme. The entire 12" x 18" paper should be used. After arranging an interesting composition, students will glue down their items.
