Students will choose 1 of 2 designs for their ancestry books. They will learn vocabulary terms that are required for book making. They will complete the construction of their books this week.
Students will continue to use Ancestryclassroom.com to research their family and cultural heritage. Students will spend the entire week in the computer lab to acquire info about their families. They will also collect images that will describe their cultural heritage and family traditions. They will print out their findings.
Students will complete "Describe Culture" hand out on Monday. Students will complete "Who am I?" hand out on Tuesday. Students were given a homework assignment last Friday to talk to their families about names of grand parents, aunts and uncles, etc. so they can research their family trees. Wed, students will begin researching their family tree using Ancestry.classroom.com. and the completed homework family list. Students will be given an extra opportunity to complete the assessment for the African American Art History Poster.
Students will use warm or cold colored water color paints to render their trees. They will use washes, which are watered down versions of each color for this composition. they will use the opposite colors for their roots. They may use any colored washes for their symbols.
When their painting is dry, they can go over the outline with this sharpie.
Students will write an artist's statement to accompany their artwork.
Students will continue to work on their song and roots, due to the weather. Students will circle all of the nouns in their song lyrics. They will write down the nouns that repeat and create symbols for at least 5.
They will sketch a portion of the tree, near the roots. they will draw the roots, placing their symbols in the negative space.
The lyrics will be written, creatively, in the background of their drawing, after they lightly draw their sketch on final drawing paper.
