Kara Walker was born November 26, 1969. She is an African American artist. She moved to Stone Mountain, Georgia when she was 13. She is a contemporary artist who explores self identity in her art work. She also explores the topic of race in her work. She is best known for her room-size tableaux of black cut-paper silhouettes. Walker lives in New York and is on the faculty of the MFA program at Columbia University.
